Four weeks of September have blown by! It is always so fabulous to hear all of the summer stories and connect with students. Students were excited to see the new library space, but are especially fond of the "Wish List". Along with our new contracts, the library recieved extra funding to update our collection! I've been inviting kiddos to think about what books they feel the library is missing and post their wishes on the board. It was so full the first month that I've had to empty it already! :)
In class we have been learning routines and rules both in class and online, celebrating International Dot Day and learning new things- like Seesaw! For Dot Day students used the Ipad apps Doodle Buddy and Quiver. They are free, so be sure to check them out at home as well!
In October Kindergarten students will begin checking out! They will also be introduced to author Dan Santat. Later in the month we will begin our unit on "Old Favorites- an introduction to Fiction". First graders will begin their unit Trickster Tales from Around the World and second grade students will be learning about just right books, and listening to stories that center on immigrants as well as using Seesaw to find and locate books.
Next month 3-5 graders will delve deep into Destiny, our library database. They will learn how to login, save books, find and use our library databases and explore KCLS online. For a more in depth look at our curriculum go to the page "For Parents" and click on "October Curriculum".
