One of the changes I have made to the library is the addition of a Makerspace. If you have recently visited the Bellevue King County Library you may have noticed their IdeaX rooms. These rooms provide opportunities for patrons to explore and learn new tech or creative pursuits. I am trying, bit by bit, to incorporate these types of activities in our Challenger Library. Recently, I have had students make dog toys to give to the Humane Society. We have also had kindness cards and lego challenges as part of this choice. Students are welcome to explore Makerspace during open library hours and after check out.

I recently read a compelling article in School Library Journal on the Neuroscience of Making. I hope you will take time to read these "brain facts" about how Makerspace can promote your child's education!
